Not sure about you, but I’ve always been a sucker for a good bodyguard story. There’s something sexy and heroic about the man (or woman) who’s so badass that they’re willing to put everything on the line to protect others.

Anyway, I’ve always wanted to write a traditional bodyguard story (hunky guy can’t be taken down, must protect woman who resents him and all his hotness), but when the OhellNo Series’ storyline presented the opportunity for a young female bodyguard, I couldn’t resist!

In my new snarky romance, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, we meet Mitch Hofer, the world famous, Australian, Olympic swimmer. On the outside, his life seems pretty awesome. Fame, wealth, and extreme good looks. He’s a stereotypical sex symbol with a bright future.

The only problem is that someone wants him dead. Why? It’s a great question! And you won’t believe the answer (even if it’s right in front of the reader’s face the entire time).

Either way, the threat is real so…bring in the bodyguards!

Abigail Carter is just one semester shy of graduating from college when things go financially south for her and her mother. In desperate need of money and with no other options, Abi agrees to take on an extremely well-paid job in Mitch’s detail. She’s smart, kind of nerdy, and not your typical bodyguard, but she’s perfect for blending into Mitch’s all-female entourage. At least, the owner of the personal security company thinks so, which is why he recruited Abi.

But from the first minute on her new job, Abi discovers just how hard guarding Mitch is going to be. Unexpected feelings, clashing personalities, and hidden agendas create the perfect storm for a delicious mess!

I hope you enjoy the nerd vs. jock, enemies-to-lovers, sports romance with inspiration from some of my favorite bodyguard movies/series!

Mimi’s TOP FIVE Bodyguard Flix:

5. The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017, Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson). I don’t think I have to explain why this made the list because…HYSERICAL.

4. Leon: The Professional (1994, Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman). Okay, granted, this movie is more of hitman turned bodyguard, but it still goes on my top five! First, Jean’s character is your stereotypical killing machine, but he lives by a certain code, which I always love. The bad guy with a heart inevitably finds himself being the good guy as he tries to protect a little girl from a group of men who have no morals or code. I think what I love most about this movie is how it manages to be sweet and tender, but violent and bloody at the same time.

3. The Bodyguard Series (2018, Richard Madden).  If you haven’t seen this British series on Netflix, and you’re into hot bodyguards like I am, then you’re missing out!  Richard is the smokin’ hot, silent-but-deadly bodyguard with a few stress related issues, but he’s determined to do right no matter the cost. And yes, he’s willing to give into his lust for a particular powerful woman, so what’s not to love?

2. The Bodyguard (1992, Kevin Costner, Whitney Houston). Oh, come on! You knew this was going to make my list. I loved that movie then, and I still love it now. A, there’s that Dolly Parton song Whitney sings that’s pulls on the old heartstrings. B, Kevin’s performance as the unshakeable badass with almost supernatural abilities (like closing his eyes to shoot at bad guys in the night) make him the ultimate bodyguard. C, Whitney’s temper tantrums are delicious! (You just wanna shake some sense into her as she resists Kevin’s protective awesomeness. LOL.)

1.  Close (2019, Noomi Rapace). I read in Cosmo that this Netflix film was inspired by J.K. Rowling’s actual bodyguard, so naturally this is my number 1 pick!   Yeah, the ratings weren’t so good, but man! Noomi kicks some serious ass and you just can’t help loving her character, who must protect an entitled teenage girl from a group of ruthless hitmen. I want more female bodyguard flix like this!

Note, these other two didn’t make the list but are still well worth watching, Guarding Tess (1994, Nicolas Cage, Shirley McLain) and Man on Fire (2004, Denzel Washington).

Happy reading! (And watching.)

With Love,

Mimi

From New York Times Bestseller
Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes BATTLE OF THE
BULGE
, Book Four of the OHellNO Series. (A Standalone.)

“Chicks can’t be bodyguards. Especially hot chicks.”

MY NAME IS MITCH HOFER. I’m a
world-famous swimmer from Australia, best known for three things: my gold medals, my looks, and filling out a swimsuit with my…eh-hem—bulky equipment. Let’s just say there’s a reason my nickname is “the Bulge.”

But beyond the fame, sponsors, and glory, there’s more to me than people know, including one hell of a mess I’ve gotten mixed up in. Life-or-death
stuff, so bring in the professionals. Just don’t give me a chick bodyguard.
Especially a young hot one who distracts me at every turn and hates my guts…

MY NAME IS ABI CARTER, and I hate Mitch Hofer. Yeah, he might be the sexiest champion swimmer in the world, but I’d give this guy a gold medal for being a first-class jerk.

Unfortunately, my boss has given me a choice—guard Mitch or get another job. And I really need the money. I can be professional, but if Mitch says “chicks can’t be bodyguards” one more time, I just might strangle
him myself.

Still, something about the way Mitch keeps looking at me makes me think there’s more to his story. It’s almost as if he’s trying to drive me away. But why?
